The Fellowship in Pediatric Orthodontics is a postdoctoral course that provides in-depth training for dental practitioners looking to acquire specialised expertise in diagnosis, prevention and management of orthodontic problems in children and adolescents. The programme offers a detailed knowledge of growth and development of the craniofacial structure, pediatric orthodontics assessment, preventive and interceptive orthodontics, growth modification techniques, appliance therapy and management of dentofacial anomalies. The concepts of contemporary paediatric orthodontics, such as functional appliances, digital orthodontics, clear aligner therapy, airway focused orthodontics, skeletal anchorage systems and interdisciplinary treatment planning are explored. Other curriculum areas include behavioral management, psychosocial issues in orthodontic care, orthodontic trauma management, biomechanics and public health orthodontics. The purpose of the fellowship is to enhance the knowledge and clinical decision making skills needed to provide age-appropriate orthodontic treatment and promote healthy oral and craniofacial growth and development in children.
