Program overview

The Fellowship in Sleep Medicine is a 12-month advanced training program for health care professionals with an interest in furthering their education in the diagnosis, evaluation and management of sleep disorders. The course covers in detail the physiology of sleep, sleep diagnostics, interpretation of a polysomnography, obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, parasomnias, circadian rhythm disorders, pediatric sleep, and emerging sleep healthcare technologies. Participants gain solid evidence-based sleep medicine and multidisciplinary patient care fundamentals in structured online learning, case-based discussions, clinical exposure and mentorship from experienced sleep medicine specialists in various clinical settings.

Skills You Will Gain

  • A solid grasp of sleep physiology, neurobiology and circadian rhythm regulation.

  • An understanding of the diagnosis and management of common and complex sleep disorders.

  • Interpretation of sleep related diagnostic studies (polysomnography, actigraphy, home sleep testing).

  • Knowledge of the principles of positive airway pressure therapy and of obstructive sleep apnea evaluation.

  • Knowledge of using evidence-based guidelines, clinical decision making and multi-disciplinary strategies to care for sleep.

  • Knowledge of research principles, quality improvement efforts and ethical concerns in sleep medicine.

  • Understanding of sleep health promotion, public health strategies and sleep management in special populations.
